QOILTECH Near-Bit Tool Sets Two New Records
Release time:2021/12/09
Recently, a well in Shanxi Province, successfully completed drilling operations using QOILTECH CatLiD-I 675 Near-Bit LWD System for the first time. The tool provided robust geological guidance for the drilling crew and set new records for both mechanical drilling speed and reservoir drilling rate in the operational block.

QOILTECH Near-Bit Tool Sets Two New Records

The Near-Bit LWD System is an essential geological guidance tool in petroleum drilling. It uses high-precision accelerometers to dynamically measure the drill bit's orientation, high-reliability gamma sensors to analyze local formation radiation at different azimuths, and low-frequency electromagnetic waves to transmit real-time measurements to the receiver. This system overcomes the limitations of conventional LWD tools, which are positioned farther from the drill bit and provide delayed guidance. As a result, it is widely applied to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and accelerate intelligent drilling, with rapidly growing demand.

QOILTECH CatLiD-I 675 Near-Bit LWD System leverages proprietary technologies in bit orientation, gamma measurement, electromagnetic signal transmission, and data processing, achieving performance comparable to leading international products. Its high-temperature and high-reliability electronics are specifically designed to meet the demands of deep oil and gas development.

Record-Breaking Performance
Increasing single-well production and economic efficiency places higher demands on drilling tools. Achieving faster drilling speeds and higher reservoir drilling rates is key. In its horizontal well debut, the CatLiD-I 675 delivered:

  • Vertical section: 722 m (104–826 m), 82.2 hours of pure drilling, mechanical ROP 8.78 m/h

  • Horizontal section: 856 m (826–1682 m), 76 hours of pure drilling, mechanical ROP 11.26 m/h

  • Overall average mechanical ROP: 9.98 m/h

These results set a new record for footage speed in the operational block. Meanwhile, the Near-Bit azimuthal gamma and MWD tools achieved excellent performance, delivering a 100% reservoir drilling rate, also a new record for coal seam penetration in the block.
