QOILTECH Near-Bit Tool Achieves New Success

In December 2021, QOILTECH CatLiD-I 675 Near-Bit LWD System successfully solved major technical challenges in a coalbed methane well in Shanxi Province, despite the complex geological conditions and extremely difficult drilling operations.
Before QOILTECH involvement, the well had faced severe difficulties due to poor geological development. Formation data within the target layer were weak, which hindered trajectory guidance and resulted in a complicated wellbore path. Multiple issues such as obstructions, stuck pipe, tool loss, and backfilling occurred.
Although minor obstructions were encountered during drilling, QOILTECH's professional team, together with the client and rig crew, overcame them safely through precise parameter control and careful operations. The client praised the QOILTECH field team as highly capable, collaborative, and responsible—"responding to customer needs as their own."
The CatLiD-I 675 Near-Bit Tool demonstrated outstanding performance in the well. Its 16-sector azimuthal gamma imaging not only highlighted coal seam entry and exit points clearly, but also provided reliable intra-seam measurements for accurate trajectory control, preventing further borehole complexity.
On December 14, 2021, the tool successfully landed at 1,506 m.
On December 17, 2021, the well was smoothly completed at 2,082 m, with a horizontal section of 576 m.
Despite a stratigraphic gap between 1,703–1,770 m, the tool enabled precise re-entry into the reservoir, achieving an impressive 97.92% reservoir drilling rate. Measurements of inclination, gamma, and other parameters were stable, with reliable data transmission.
Overall, drilling advanced 548 m in total, with 35 hours of pure drilling time and an average ROP of 15.66 m/h. The horizontal section was completed in a single run, further validating the system’s high reliability.
From tool preparation and pre-job planning to onsite service and system performance, QOILTECH showcased both professionalism and technical excellence, ensuring smooth and successful well completion.

By that stage, the well had already undergone three backfills, four sidetracks, and five lost drilling intervals (totaling 3,073 meters). When QOILTECH's tool arrived onsite, drilling was in progress on the fourth sidetrack.
